I grew up around BBQ in south Georgia and when I was my mid-twenties started trying my hand at it on a gas grill. When life took my wife Katie and I to Scotland for PhD work, I quickly realized that I wasn't going to find anything close the slow smoked foods I'd grown to love back home. Katie let me buy a 14.5 inch kettle grill and with one hand on the cooker and the other searching Google my passion for 'que grew.
After surviving a little more than a year and a half in a 10x5 office space writing for 10-12 hours a day with little to no sun, Katie and I decided to come back to Georgia. Settling into the metro Atlanta area, I noticed all the bbq contests around me and decided to try my hand. The first cook wasn't pretty, but we did get a 4th place pork call out of 40something teams in the backyard division. I quickly realized a few things about competition BBQ: it was expensive and part of that expense was shipping from distant locations, lots of products that you just couldn't find any closer. After waiting over a week twice for products that I needed yesterday, Katie let me get a website and a few products to put on that site. Notice the theme in my life.
The major impetus behind starting the Atlanta BBQ Store was to provide quicker, cheaper shipping and in many cases free competition delivery to BBQ contests that we or our sponsored teams were attending. With a few awards in hand a year later and some time on the learning curve, we hope to be able to offer great customer service, quick and cheap delivery, and BBQ knowledge from someone who is cooking and using the products we offer multiple times a week. If you have any questions feel free to email me or better yet give me a call. I love to talk all things BBQ!
